Version 3.8.4 users need not upgrade. No functional changes were made in 3.8.5
Please note that 3.8.1 and up are a big change from previous releases. Lots of internal changes. If you experience any problems with it please send me a note.
Note for users of Windows 7:
Iconoid does not work well on the final Windows 7 release. If you install it and have problems, use task manager to kill it and uninstall it. I'll fix it at some point, but not soon.
Note for users of Windows NT:
Iconoid version 3.7.0 is the last version that supports Windows NT. Version 3.7.0 is available in the archive.
About the download of Iconoid 3.8.5.
The file size is pretty large but that includes the installer, uninstaller, and an extensive help files. The actual program is quite small. The only files needed to run the program are
Iconoid.exe
tr3dll.dll
You will get the option to install the help files. If you choose not to install the help, Iconoid will display help from the web site.
Prerequisites
Iconoid will run on Windows 98, ME, NT (see note), 2000, XP and Vista (32 bit, see faq regarding 64 bit).
You must have at least COMDLG32.DLL version 4.70 on your system. That is installed with Win98 and 2000, or Internet Explorer Version 4 or higher.
Installation
If you are installing Iconoid version 3 over a previous version 1 or version 2, please uninstall the previous version before installing Iconoid 3.8.
If you are installing any older version of Iconoid over any newer version, please uninstall the newer version first or your desktop may crash when you try to run the older version.
- Unpack the files from iconoid.zip to a temporary directory using an archive utility such as WinZip.
- Run the SETUP.EXE file and follow the prompts.
Uninstall
Iconoid can be uninstalled from the regular Add/Remove Programs
option in the Windows Control Panel.

The old versions
Iconoid version 2.3.4 was the last version written in Visual Basic. I get occasional requests for the source, you can download and install Version 2.3.4 and you will find a source directory in the location where you installed the program. No support is offered on this ancient version.
Other older versions are available in the archive. If you have any other versions (preferably including source), please send them to me and I'll add them to the archive.
